7 Crucial Web Design Trends in 2015
โGreat web design without functionality is like a sports car with no engine.โ
โย Paul Cookson
You need to keep up with the world. But how can you do this? Well, donโt worry, I’m here to help you out! I selectedย 7 crucial web design trends to look out for in 2015.
How did I choose the most relevant trends? You may ask. Well, I have some visions because Iโm a spice addict, and also I just discovered Frank Herbertโs Dune, so be prepared to read some references.
No, but Iย know how the industry goes, and Iย want to give you a heads up. I have been in this industry for a long time now and each year I learn a ton of new stuff that I can use, and I scrape a ton of old stuff that has become futile. So rest assured that I bring you only top notch information.
So what are you waiting for? Scroll down and see what 2015 have brought us!
ย 1. Animations
They are making a comeback! I love it! Interacting with the website makes you feel that the developers, the web designers actually care about their users.
But please, please, donโt bring this guy back. Let him stay in his rotten pit for eternity. I had my fair share of annoying messages from that paperclip from hell.
ย 2. Stock vs. Natural Looking Photos
To be honest, this has been a thing for about 2 or even 3 years now, but somehow we rarely see websites with natural looking photos. Everyone just wants the easy way, andย they get stock photos that ruin the website.
Iโm not blaming the web designers on this one because I know that you must listen to your clients’ wishes and stupid ideas. We are glad to announce that web designers all over the universe have rallied up, under the banner of the Kwisatz Haderach, and are embarking on a jihad โ destroying stock photos is their life water!
ย 3. Hand-made vector illustrations
Another trend that Iโm more than happy has finally arrived. A web designer should be able to make some hand made vector illustrations, and if not, he should be in touch with an awesome illustrator.ย If he chooses to make great things.
If he is just contempt with mediocrity, then by all means, donโt follow this trend, but heโll lose a ton of work because of this. And Iโm looking at you Timmy, you lazy man. Get off of your hinny and do some creative work. Stop playing in the sand.
ย 4. Vibrant Colors
I was talking with a friend of mine the other day about dark and gritty movies, and how we are all fed up with them. Sin City started this trend, and itโs slowly becoming a thing of the past.
Donโt get me wrong on this one, I enjoy a good dark and gritty movie, but nowadays you just see a ton of the same old rehashed graphics. The same goes for website design. We used to get so many dark vibes from websites, but thereโs a rumor that in 2015 vibrant colors will rule the marketplace, and they will rule with an iron fist!
ย 5. Less is More
Yup, we are getting back to the minimal design โ in some way. A clean, simple, and concise design can do wonders, rather than a cluster of elements being driven into the user’s eyes. You hate it when there is too much stuff going on the website, right? So why do you think that users love it?
Itโs about time this started being a trend. I for one know that Iโm sick and tired of elements popping from the left, from the right โ โClick me, Iโll give you what you needโ. No, the ducal signet canโt be given to me by a mere mortal, and in this case, youโre just an AI you website, you.
ย 6. Mobile-Like Menus
I am not a fan of mobile-like menus, but it seems that itโs becoming a huge trend, and itโll be a crucial one in 2015. Use it, donโt use it – I donโt care that much. I like how the usage of smartphones, and tablets is growing more and more each year, but it scares me too.
In the near future, we will not raise our heads just to look around and see the world. We will put some headphones in our ears, and we will surf the web on our way to work, where we will be in front of a huge monitor. Then we will go back home, doing the same thing.
ย 7. Parallax
I have to say that I adore Parallax websites. They are just so intriguing. Iโm so glad that it is becoming a trend, slowly, but surely. It brings a whole new level of entertainment to your website, and I canโt wait to see what great Parallax works 2015 will bring us.
This was my article about 7 crucial web design trends to look out for in 2015. We hope your future projects will be filled with Parallax, hand-made vector illustrations and a ton of animations.
If you have anything to add, ย just post in the comments section below. I’d love to hear from you!
To be fair I don’t think it’s so much stock photography vs. natural photography as it is bad stock photography vs. good stock photography. A good stock photo doesn’t make it obvious it’s a stock photo.
