Artist of the Week: Selfie Fables by Simona Bonafini

“Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof programs, and the universe trying to build bigger and better idiots. So far, the universe is winning.”

– Rick Cook

Simona Bonafini is a talented illustrator from Milano, Italy. She has decided to show the unseen world of fables making selfies. I for one think it’s a marvelous funny idea, and I’m glad that someone brought it to existence. Whether you want to see Hercules pulling weights or Ariel taking selfies on the beach, you came to the right place.

Simona has a Behance account all set up, and also a Facebook page so you can go ahead and like her. So what are we waiting for? Let’s scroll down and laugh!

1. The Evil Queen

Sporting a décolletage, the evil queen seems to be having trouble with her internet beauty points. Everyone is rallying with the stranger behind her. Who could that beautiful creature be? She even amazed the mirror on the wall. To be honest, I never liked the evil queen that much. She seems too petty for my taste. I’ve heard that she is in the habit of poisoning those who are more beautiful than her.

2. Alice In Wonderland

Who said that getting lost in an underground world will lead only to sadness and despair? Alice is having the time of her life sharing a cup of tea with the Mad Hatter. Rumors are that Alice has a gotten herself into a bad entourage and is prone to drug use. We hope nothing comes of it. Stay strong Alice and don’t let peer pressure make you do things that you don’t want to. Remember that you have a choice, and you choose life.

3. Peter Pan Photobomb

What a joker this Peter Pan is. He went on photobombing these 3 young kids just before he abducted them. Wait. What? Abducted? This should turn into a most wanted poster soon. Who would do such a horrible thing like abducting children from their loving home and bringing them to a land filled with peril and independence. I mean, yeah, I can get past the risk part, but independence? That’s harsh, especially at that age. I’m well in my twenties now, and I got to say that every day is a struggle.

4. Ariel’s Day At The Beach

Ariel, seeking attention as always. But who wouldn’t if they had that face and body? It seems like she’s getting more beautiful by the year. And it also appears that she attracts unwanted attention from lowlifes. I mean come on, what comment is that from SebastianUnderTheSea “ Darling it’s better down where it’s wetter…Take it from me!”. It sounds so lecherous. I hate people that tend to act like that. It makes me feel that they want to attract attention to them regardless of the way they do. Hey buddy, keep your words locked under the sea until you learn some manners.

5. Hercules

Of course, you have to take a selfie at the gym. Who doesn’t do that? You need to let the world know that you are working out. That you are taking care of your body, not like Timmy, who sits in the corner and reads. Sheesh Timmy, reading isn’t going to get you anywhere, but selfies at the gym will get you a ton of hotties. Take a lesson from Hercules here. He will be up and running in a few years; he’s on his way to becoming the…a remind me again what is his life goal? He can’t try to be the king of Gods because that’s his father’s place, Zeus. And you know, being immortal and all makes that job pretty locked down. Anyway, don’t think about it, just go to the gym and let future Hercules worry about this stuff.

6. Merlin The Legend

It was about time Merlin got on the internet and took a selfie. He actually deserves it. He spends eons trying to learn magic and move from his parents’ basement, then he moved to the big city and stumbled upon Arthur Pendragon, a most vicious tyrant who make him slave at work all day. Good for you Merlin that you said “ No! This has to stop now!”. I’m really quite fond of Merlin and his beard. A man that has overcome so much in his life deserves every bit of respect from me.

7. Cinderella

Cinderella’s purpose in life is to succumb everyone with envy. Just look at those beautiful shoes. I hope she loses them on the way back home, and I find them. Come to think of it. Where is she going tonight? I’ve heard a ball is in order, and the prince will be there. Is that her master plan? To get the prince to date her? What a planning and mischievous little orphan. She may even have a shot at her plan.

8. Jasmine

Ah, to be young and in love. And with such a handsome fellow. I’ve only heard good things about this Aladdin chap – that he helps the poor and takes care of the ill. He’ll have a great future ahead of him that’s for sure. And not just because he will marry a princess and acquire the rights to the throne, but because he was such a kind and gentle soul.

Simona Bonafini has made my day more awesome, and I have to thank her for that. I’ll just remind you that you can catch a glimpse of her work on Behance and Facebook. She has a ton of other cool stuff there and who knows what will inspire you. If you have anything to add, please feel free to do so by posting in the comments section below. We would love to hear from you!
