10 Sites to Get Photoshop Actions

“I have equal parts film and digital cameras in my collection. I think that there are ways to Photoshop photos so that they look like you shot them on film, but is that as rewarding? It just depends on the person.”

– Dianna Agron

As a designer, it is safe to assume that you earn your bread and butter by spending lots and lots of time in Adobe’s Photoshop, making photo manipulations, designs, websites, and anything else that is required of you, once again, as a designer.

Photoshop is a tremendous tool to have in your toolbox, and it has been so for quite a while.

Adobe Photoshop began its life in 1987 as a program called simply Display, made by Thomas Knoll, then a PhD student at the University of Michigan. In its first incarnation, all the program could do was display grayscale images on a monochrome background. Thomas’ brother, John Knoll, who was working and Industrial Light & Magic at the time liked the program, and suggested that Thomas should make it a full-fledged image editing program.

Later that year, Thomas renamed the program Photoshop, and went to Silicon Valley to give a demonstration to engineers at Apple and Adobe’s art director Russell Brown. The demonstration was a success, and Adobe bought the license to distribute the program in September 1988. The two brothers worked on code and plugins, and Photoshop 1.0 was finally released in 1990.

Since then, as we all know, Adobe Photoshop has become the industry standard, and is the most used image editing software in the world, being hailed as a truly versatile program.

However, there is always room for improvement. Photoshop allows you to create virtually any design you might have trapped in your head, but the process of making it can be arduous and time-consuming, but there are ways to work around this.

One really useful time-saver is using actions, which are applications of several settings, all at the push of a button.
