Needless to say, Twitter is a behemoth of a website, with over 500 million registered users, generating a huge amount of new content each day (over 340 million new tweets daily). Anyone who is anyone has a Twitter profile, and that makes it a great way to get information directly from the people you are interested in. As a designer, social networking is something you can really benefit from, as you have no doubt noticed.

IMDb is probably the best thing that ever happened to movie buffs. Now more than ever, you can get all the information you could possibly want about a movie, director, actor, producer, sound engineer etc. Big websites are always a hassle to maintain, and sometimes errors just happen. We are talking, of course, about the dreaded 404. But good design can make the experience of finding a broken or dead link enjoyable, and the people responsible for IMDb got the hang of this really well.

Graphic design, and, in fact, design in general, is an extremely interdisciplinary field. Designers draw their inspiration from many places and many fields, artistic and not. For one designer, their main inspiration source may be illustration and the rich tradition of painting and drawing in Western Culture, while for another design inspiration may come from architecture. To a third, the field they draw most of their creative energy from may be photography.

In an age where all the information you could possibly want seems to be a mere push of a button a way, conferences are a testament to how important social interaction is to us humans. We go to them to listen to and meet other professionals in our domain (or a domain we just happen to be interested in), and to learn and share new information, practices. Conferences are also working vacations; an opportunity to visit somewhere new, while also not feeling like you are slacking off from your job.
